3 obrovské výhody mulčovania záhonu po výsadbe cesnaku na jeseň. Spraviť to takto bola tá najlepšia vec!

Almost all gardeners grow winter garlic in their gardens. This crop is extremely undemanding and survives even in extreme frosts.

But then why do experienced gardeners throw mulch on the bed after planting garlic? The mulch placed on the garlic bed actually performs several useful functions, which I will tell you about today.

The first and very important role of mulch is to create a "coat" for the garlic bed. Although garlic is a cold hardy crop, if there is little snow in the garden bed and severe frosts hit, the cold hardiness may fail and some planted cloves will die.

Mulch is a good snow trap, so there will always be a layer of snow on the bed. In addition, if the garlic germinates in the autumn due to a sudden warming, then the mulch will also serve as a good protection against frost.

The second role of mulch is to keep the soil loose after winter and melt water. In a mulched bed, nutrients are much less leached from the soil by snowmelt water.

What mulch is best for garlic? There are plenty of options, but my favorite and easiest ones are: pruned branches from recently fertilized remontant raspberries and sloped green manure.

You can even mix the two and put them on the bed. Then the garlic will be protected from severe frosts and the soil in the garden bed will remain loose in the spring.

You can also use other mulch: straw, hay, leaf litter, peat, humus and other materials. How do you mulch garlic in autumn? Share your experiences in the comments.
